3/3/NINE
ABOUT: SIX9 / 6NINE is a series of videos in collaboration between Boston-based dancers and musicians. In this project, we investigated the relationship between music, dance, and film, and played with ideas surrounding context and looping. We also wanted to alter the order of creation and explore how music can be developed based off movement, rather than the other way around, which is more typical in performing arts.
PROCESS: Each dancer self- choreographed a short solo that was then sent to each musician. The musicians then composed and recorded a different score for each solo, focusing on the movement alone for inspiration. This resulted in nine solos all with different soundtracks. Utilizing film, environment, and movement quality, the collaborators developed a series of solos films that are incredibly varied.
