LEAH ABBOTT

artistic coordinator

Leah Abbott hails from Florence, South Carolina. In high school, she attended the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities where she had her first experiences with choreography. About to graduate from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Contemporary Dance Performance, Leah has choreographed several new works doing her time at the Conservatory. One notable achievement is the show, Theme and Variations on Love, which Leah and fellow classmate, Mira Goksel, co-produced, choreographed, and directed as a passion project. Last year, Leah also had the privilege of working with a composer in collaboration to create a new work with an original score. Beyond her own works, Leah Abbott served as a rehearsal assistant under Daniel Pelzig while he was choreographing a new work at the Boston Conservatory. Beyond being a choreographer and creator, Leah sees herself as a performer and teacher as well. She has performed works by choreographers of the likes such as Jennifer Archibald, Darryl Moultrie, Kate Weare, Loni Landon, and others. She has been a teacher in the Boston-area for about three years; Leah currently teaches contemporary at Brookline Ballet School.
Leah is a co-founder and currently stands as OneScape's Artistic Coordinator. She is constantly working in various ways to explore new artistic ventures for the collective. As a co-founder, she works in collaboration to develop and research concepts for upcoming works. She also serves as a liaison between collaborators so ensure the collective's artistic integrity remains in tact and the vision of the group can successfully be delivered to their audiences. Leah's artistic perspective also stretches behind a camera lens, where she captures all the photo and
film projects OneScape produces.
A statement from Leah:
"I firmly believe that all art is an attempt to explain and understand the human condition and the desire to connect with one another. OneScape is no exception to this. I believe ultimately our goal as an artistic collective is to build connections and to create empathetic work that provokes emotional and thoughtful responses. We hope to be able to build a sense of community and care within our own collective and with the community around us."
